Second XI T20: Defeat for Somerset at Worcestershire
Somerset fell to a nine-wicket defeat to Worcestershire in the Second XI T20 competition at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
Play was due to begin at 11am but due to rain, the start was delayed by an hour.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.
Josh Thomas and Seb Linnitt shared an opening stand of 33 before the former fell for 20 in the fourth over.
By the end of the powerplay Somerset had advanced to 50 for two, Linnett was the second batter dismissed, caught by Tom Taylor off the bowling of Matthew Waite for 17.
After Andy Umeed was out for two in the seventh over, Fin Hill (27) and Archie Vaughan (16) put on 35 for the fifth wicket but they were both back in the pavilion at 93 for five after 14 overs.
Unfortunately for the visitors wickets continued to fall and 93 for five soon became 122 for eight from their allotted overs.
Waite was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three for 18 from four overs.
The hosts lost Isaac Mohammed for 11 in the second over but Ed Pollock’s blistering innings of 69 not out from just 28 deliveries helped to make short work of the chase. He was ably assisted by Jake Libby 40 from 24 as Worcestershire eased to their target in less than 10 overs.
Somerset have named the following squad: Seb Linnitt, Josh Thomas, Fin Hill, Andy Umeed, Archie Vaughan, Dylan Rawal, Migael Pretorius, Josh Davey, Alfie Ogborne, JT Langridge and George Addy.
