Second XI T20: Warwickshire come out on top

Somerset fell to a 22-run defeat against Warwickshire at Edgbaston Community Sports Ground in the Second XI T20 competition today.

Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat.

Kian Roberts made an early breakthrough when he bowled Alex Davies (4) in the second over, but Vansh Jani and Hamza Shaikh shared a second wicket stand of 91 before the latter was bowled by Josh Thomas for 29 in the 10th over.

Jani went on to make 83 from just 33 balls, whilst Nathan Gilchrist added a brisk 24 as the hosts finished on 197 for nine from their allotted overs.

Roberts was the pick of the Somerset attack, claiming three for 32 whilst Jack Leach took two for 20.

In reply, the Somerset 50 was raised in the fourth over as Thomas and Archie Vaughan got the run chase off to a positive start.

The opening pair shared an opening stand of 64 before Thomas fell for 32 from 16 balls in the sixth over.

Vaughan then shared another half century partnership with Theo Lamey but he was dismissed for 53 from 42 deliveries at 120 for two in the 14th over.

Lamey went on to make 48 from 35 balls but other than Ben Church (26 from 11) no other batter reached double figures as the visitors were limited to 175 for six.
