Second XI T20: Somerset win again

SCORECARD & CLIPS

Somerset claimed another win in the Second XI T20 competition after a comprehensive 86-run victory over Warwickshire at Taunton Vale Sports Club today (Monday June 3rd).

Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bowl. Unfortunately for the visitors that was about as good as their day got.

George Thomas and James Rew shared an opening stand of 53 2from 5.1 overs to give the hosts a solid platform. Rew went on to make an eye catching 52 from just 23 balls before miscuing Rhodes to Garlick at 85 for two in the ninth over.

Tom Lammonby and Andy Umeed then took the score to 140 before the former fell for 28. Umeed reached 50 from 29 balls and had advanced his score to 66 from 36 balls when he was out in strange circumstances. With the score on 189 and with two balls remaining in the innings, he attempted a reverse sweep and hist his own wicket.

Somerset finished on 190 for five from their allotted overs.

Chasing 191 to win, Warwickshire started well by claiming 19 runs off the first over, bowled by Alfie Ogborne. However, Sonny Baker claimed three wickets in the second over to leave the visitors on 21 for three.

Wylie was the only batter to offer any resistance but his knock of 52 came to an end when he attempted a switch hit only to get it horribly wrong and was bowled between his legs. He was dismissed at 79 for five in the eighth over and Warwickshire were dismissed for 104 in the 12th over.

Somerset Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis has named the following squad: James Rew, Tom Lammonby, George Thomas, Andy Umeed, Kasey Aldridge, Josh Thomas, Ned Leonard, Alfie Ogborne, Jack Leach, Sonny Baker, Shoaib Bashir.
