
Second XI T20: Defeat for Somerset in derby
Gloucestershire beat Somerset by 35 runs in the Second XI T20 competition at Taunton Vale Sports Club today.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat.
Jake Ball and Alfie Ogborne claimed an early wicket each to ensure that Gloucestershire were 47 for two at the end of the six-over powerplay.
The Gloucestershire 50 arrived in the seventh over, but two further wickets fell in the space of just five balls as Josh Thomas and JT Langridge each claimed a scalp to leave Gloucestershire on 54 for four in the eighth over.
James Matravers and James Trood (20) added 22 for the fifth wicket but the latter was trapped lbw by Thomas with the score on 76 in the 10th.
Matravers (25) and Daaryoush Ahmed shared a stand of 45 to take the visitors to 121 before an unbeaten stand of 68 between Ahmed (46*) and Ed Middleton (38*) saw Gloucestershire reach 189 for six from their 20 overs.
The home side lost Seb Linnitt in the opening over of the reply, but Thomas and Fin Hill took their team to 34 in the fourth over.
Thomas fell for 28 from 16 balls and when Hill (14) was bowled by Trodd the hosts were 57 for three in the seventh.
Andy Umeed (50) and Kian Roberts (30) shared a fourth wicket stand of 73 but both were dismissed with the score on 130 and there departures essentially signaled the end for Somerset who finished on 154 for seven.
