Second XI T20: Defeat for Somerset
Somerset lost by 42 runs to Glamorgan in the Second XI T20 competition at Taunton Vale Sports Club today.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl.
Alex Horton and Asa Tribe shared an opening stand of 32 before the the former was caught by George Thomas off the bowling of Alfie Ogborne for 12. Harry Friend was caught behind off Ned Leonard for two, and when Ben Kellaway fell to Josh Thomas for seven the visitors were 59 for three in the eighth over.
Tribe and Henry Hurle added 67 for the fourth wicket before the Glamorgan opener was caught by Kian Roberts off the bowling of Fin Hill for 77 with the scoreboard showing 126.
Two quick wickets fell to leave the visitors on 133 for six in the 17th over, but 31 not out from Harry Podmore helped Glamorgan reach a total of 172 for six from their allotted overs.
Leonard was the pick of the Somerset bowlers, claiming three for 28 from his four overs.
The Somerset reply got off to a poor start as Will Smeed, George Thomas and Fin Hill all found themselves back in the pavilion with just 24 runs on the board, and when Josh Thomas departed, the hosts were struggling on 41 for four after five overs.
Sean Dickson helped to steady the ship somewhat with 24 from 17 balls, before a 30-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Kian Roberts (25) and Oscar Coleman (19) gave Somerset hope.
Unfortunately, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and Somerset were dismissed for 130 from 18 overs as Glamorgan won by 42 runs.
