
Second XI Friendly: Warwickshire v Somerset – Day Three
DAY THREE
Warwickshire beat Somerset by two wickets.
Warwickshire resumed on 37 for two on day three of this friendly at Edgbaston Community Sports Ground, requiring 187 for victory.
Nine runs had been added to the total when Vansh Jani (12) chipped Zach Vukusic to JT Langridge at mid on.
Three wickets then fell for as many runs.
Levi Gekis was caught behind off Alfie Ogborne, Hamza Shaikh was bowled by Kian Roberts and Danny Briggs was caught by Ogborne off the bowling of Roberts to leave the hosts on 49 for six.
However, Oliver Dandy and Jake Lintott began to rebuild and brought up the Warwickshire 100 after 34 overs.
Their partnership was worth 52 when Lintott (27) swept Muhammad Kaleem to Ben Church at 101 for seven.
When the lunch interval arrived, Warwickshire had advanced to 111 for seven.
After the break, Dandy reached his 50 from 92 balls and shared an eighth wicket partnership of 48 with Ben Blakemore.
The score had advanced to 149 when Blakemore edged Kaleem to Josh Thomas at second slip. However, Dandy remained unbeaten on 88 from 137 balls and received good support from Thilan Walallawita (44*) as the pair added 76 to see the hosts over the line.
DAY TWO
Somerset and Warwickshire played out an intriguing second day at the Edgbaston Sports Ground today on day two. JT Langridge and Matt Theedom were the stars for Somerset as they claimed three wickets each to help bowl Warwickshire out for 238, giving the visitors a lead of two runs on first innings.
Somerset’s second innings saw Zach Vukusic top score with 43 not out as the visitors were dismissed for 221. Danny Briggs was the pick of the bowlers, claiming seven for 62.
Warwickshire then finished the day on 37 for two, setting up the final day tomorrow. JT Langridge claiming his 4th wicket of the match in the process.
DAY ONE
Somerset won the toss, elected to bat and started positively with openers Josh Thomas and Ben Church bringing up their 50 partnership in the 12th over. The opening stand was eventually worth 74 when Church fell for 23 but Thomas went on to bring up his 50 from 51 balls.
Thomas moved to 52 but was caught by Isaac Mohammed off the bowling of Tazeem Ali at 86 for two.
Lewis Goldsworthy and Fin Hill shared a partnership of 34 to take the visitors past the 100 mark but the former was stumped for 17 at 120 for three. Hill was then lbw to Thilan Walallawita for 30 and Somerset reached lunch with the scoreboard displaying 131 for four.
In the afternoon session, Will Smeed fell early but Thomas Rew (31) and Kian Roberts (20) added 41 for the sixth wicket but both fell to Danny Briggs before Ali claimed the last three wickets as the visitors were all out for 240. Ali was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 61.
The host’s reply started well as Isaac Mohammed and Theo Wylie shared an opening stand of 44 before the latter fell to JT Langridge courtesy of a catch from Hill. Jack Redshaw fell in similar fashion three balls later without scoring.
Mohammed departed for 84 at 137 for three, Smeed taking the catch off Zach Vukusic. Muhammad Kaleem trapped Levi Gekis (5) lbw, but Vansh Jani remained unbeaten on 51 as Warwickshire ended the day on 171 for four, trailing by 69.
