
Second XI Friendly: Somerset v SACA – Day Three
DAY THREE
Somerset take on the South Asian Cricket Academy in a three-day friendly at Taunton Vale Sports Club this week.
The final day began with the visitors beginning their second innings trailing by 100.
JT Langridge claimed two early wickets to reduce SACA to six for two.
Cyrus Shafi and Amrit Basra took the total to 40 but the latter was caught by Jamie Ogborne off the bowling of Zach Vukusic for 26, and when Shafi was bowled by Kian Roberts for 19 the score was 52 for four.
52 for four soon became 55 for five when Roberts Accounted for Hishaam Khan (6), but Viv Hassen and Daaryoush Ahmed added 48 for the sixth wicket before the former fell lbw to Will MacDonald.
At lunch, the visitors were 103 for six, leading by three runs.
Ahmed went on to make 41 but SACA were dismissed for 140, Langridge, Roberts and MacDonald all claiming three wickets.
Chasing 41 for victory, Somerset openers Andy Umeed and Josh Thomas reached their target from 4.4 overs.
DAY TWO
Somerset resumed on 50 for one, trailing by 290 runs.
Andy Umeed went to his half century from 37 balls and the 50-run second wicket stand with Ben Church arrived from 49 deliveries.
The host’s 100 arrived in the 16th over and the 100-partnership came from 120 balls.
Church fell for 35 with the second wicket stand worth 112 at 145 for two, bowled by Thilan Walallawita.
Umeed reached his ton from 92 deliveries but was stumped off Walallawita for 102 with the Somerset total on 160. His innings included 16 fours.
By the time the lunch interval arrived, Somerset had reached 171 for three, trailing by 169.
After the break, Lewis Goldsworthy and Fin Hill added 50 for the fourth wicket before the former fell for 41 at 210 for four.
Will Smeed joined Hill and reached his half century from 84 balls and by tea the pair had taken the total to 311 without further loss.
In the evening session, Hill went to his 50 from 127 balls but was caught and bowled by Hishaam Khan for 64 with the score on 341 for five.
Smeed brought up his 100 from 148 balls, but he eventually fell for 107 at 418 for six. Unfortunately for the hosts the final four wickets fell quickly at at the close of play Somerset were all out for 440, a lead of 100.
DAY ONE
South Asian Cricket Academy won the toss and elected to bat.
Cyrus Shafi and Savin Perera shared an opening stand of 46 before the former was bowled by JT Langridge for 14 but the visitor’s 50 arrived from the fourth ball of the 12th over.
The score had advanced to 78 when Amir Khan (11) top edged Jamie Ogborne and Thomas Rew took a good catch on the run.
Amrit Basra (4) then edged Kian Roberts through to Rew at 98 for three, and at lunch the scoreboard was showing 113 for three.
After the break, Perera reached three figures from 165 balls and the century partnership arrived from 180 balls. Hishaam Khan’s half century came from 94 deliveries and by tea the score had reached 244 for three.
Perera went to 150 from 229 deliveries and the partnership with Khan reached 200 from 341 balls.
Perera eventually fell for 159, caught by Will MacDonald off the bowling of Roberts at 307 for four. The fourth wicket stand was worth 209.
Viv Hassen and Daaryoush Ahmed both fell to Zach Vukusic but Khan reached his 100 from 184 balls.
The score had reached 340 for six when the declaration came.
By the close of play, Somerset had reached 50 for one in reply.
