
Second XI County Championship: Defeat for Somerset at Surrey
Somerset take on Surrey in the Second XI County Championship at LSE Sports Ground, New Malden this week.
DAY FOUR
Surrey beat Somerset by six wickets.
Somerset resumed on 46 without loss on day four, a lead of 16.
Sean Dickson fell for the addition of just two further runs to the total, but Bertie Michael and Josh Thomas added 34 for the second wicket before the former was dismissed for 47.
Unfortunately, 82 for two became 115 all out as the visitors lost their final eight wickets for just 33 runs.
Chasing 86 for victory, Surrey lost Oliver Hunt before a run was scored and slipped to 35 for three. However, the home side reached their target for the loss of just one more wicket.
DAY THREE
Surrey resumed on 324 for seven, trailing by 59.
Nathan Barnwell eventually fell for 46 whilst George Ealham finished unbeaten on 42 as the hosts were dismissed for 413, a lead of 30.
Somerset openers Sean Dickson and Bertie Michael saw their side to 46 without loss at lunch, a lead of 16.
Unfortunately, rain meant that there was no further play on the day.
DAY TWO
Somerset resumed on 260 for five on day two of this match.
Six runs had been added to the overnight total when Ben Church was caught by Nik Gorantla to give Nathan Barnwell his second wicket of the match.
Kian Roberts and Alfie Ogborne added 72 for the seventh wicket, taking Somerset past the 300-mark before the former fell for 62.
Ogborne and JT Langridge had taken the total to 355 when Langridge fell for eight on the stroke of lunch.
After the break, the visitors lost the final two wickets to finish on 383, Ogborne making 46. Barnwell was the pick of the Surrey attack, claiming three for 94.
In reply, Surrey slipped to 29 for two in the 11th over. However, Stuart van der Merwe and George Ealham shared a third wicket partnership of 152 to take the hosts to 181. Van der Merwe was the batter to go, caught by Fin Hill off Ogborne for 114 from 81 deliveries.
Ealham (78) and Farmer (41) added 79 for the fourth wicket, and a 44-run seventh wicket partnership between Gus Atkinson and Nathan Barnwell ensured that the hosts finished the day on 324 for seven, trailing by 59.
DAY ONE
Surrey won the toss and elected to bowl.
Sean Dickson and Bertie Michael shared an opening stand of 25 before the latter was caught by Nathan Barnwell off the bowling of Gus Atkinson for six. Dickson and Josh Thomas then saw their side to lunch without further loss with the scoreboard showing 96.
The Somerset 100 arrived in the in the 22nd over before Thomas went to 50 from 60 deliveries. Thomas fell to Atkinson without adding to his half century at 109 for two but Dickson reached his 50 from 107 balls.
Dickson and Andy Umeed continued to accrue their runs at a steady pace and took Somerset past the 200 mark off the final ball of the 48th over.
The 100-partnership came from 163 balls and was eventually worth 102; Dickson was the batter to fall just one run shy of his hundred. His 99 coming from 159 deliveries.
By the time tea arrived, Somerset had reached 226 for three.
After the break, Umeed was dismissed for 47 with the score on 234 and when Fin Hill was out for 16 Somerset were 242 for five.
Bad light then stopped play with the visitors on 260 for five.
