Schools Days 2024

Days two and three of our recent Vitality County Championship match against Warwickshire saw Somerset County Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Foundation hold our annual schools days.

Over 2500 children from schools across the whole of the South West were invited to attend the match for free, and all manner of activities were staged on the days to ensure that those present had a day to remember.

Somerset players, Will Smeed, Ned Leonard and George Thomas were also on hand to join in with the activities and sign autographs.

Staff and students were also allowed to take to the outfield on Tuesday lunch time to meet with SCCC mascot, Stumpy plus Twinkle, the All Stars mascot.

Regarding the event, Somerset Cricket Foundation Managing Director, Jon Bendle said: “The strong collaboration between Somerset Cricket Foundation and Somerset County Cricket Club enables these fantastic schools days to take place. It fully compliments the work our SCF team do throughout the year in our school settings on our programmes supported by local and national partners. We want to connect our communities and provide high quality experiences for young people; the schools days are great examples of this each year.”

SCF Schools and Coaching Manager, Scott Chappell added: “Giving nearly 2,700 staff and students from schools across the South West the opportunity to come and watch top level cricket was a fantastic opportunity to not only build upon the work we do in schools through our Chance to Shine programme but also to inspire many more children to say that cricket is a game for them and create the next generation of Somerset fans.”
