Remembering Mary

A special ceremony took place in the Long Room during the lunch interval of today’s Rothesay County Championship match against Worcestershire at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

The event was held to honour Mary Elworthy-Coggan, one of the County’s most devoted and long-serving Members who sadly passed away before Christmas at the age of 89.

Somerset CEO, Jamie Cox was amongst the large group of Members, representatives from the Somerset CCC and many former players in what has affectionately become known as Mary’s Corner.

Vice Chair, Richard Brice led a tributes to Mary describing her as the doyenne of Somerset County Cricket Club who along with her husband Mike raised substantial sums of money for the Club and players.

Richard then presented the Club with a wooden plaque that will hold pride of place every day on the table where Mary always sat in the Long Room.
