Dorset Women v Somerset Women ends in dramatic tie
Somerset and Dorset’s clash at Bournemouth in Group 3 of the ECB Women’s 50-over county competition ended in a dramatic tie.
Dorset won the toss and elected to field.
Lilly Hawkins and Nicole Harvey shared an opening stand of 42 before Hawkins was bowled by Kelsey Rees for 17 in the 11th over.
Daisy Jeanes was bowled by Megan Bishop without scoring in the next over to leave Somerset on 43 for two.
Harvey and Emily Edgecombe took their side past the 50-mark but the Somerset skipper was caught Lizzie Williams for nine to give Bishop a second wicket at 56 for three in the 16th over.
Harvey had reached 32 from 57 balls when she was trapped lbw by Rosie Campbell-Bernard in the 18th over, and when Brooke Whittaker (1) became Bishop’s third victim Somerset were 67 for five in the 20th over.
Joleigh Roberts and Karla Rose took Somerset to 115 before Rose was caught by Louisa Heap off the bowling of Clare Robinson for 18. The same combination accounted for Evie Dixon two balls later to leave the visitors on 115 for seven in the 30th over.
Rees then removed Tilly Bond, Ella Stewart and Ava Ojomoh to dismiss Somerset for 137 from 36.1 overs.
Roberts remained unbeaten on 28 whilst Rees was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 21 from 9.1 overs.
Dorset were reduced to 37 for five in the 15th over thanks largely to three wickets from Harvey.
However, Bishop, who dominated the partnership, and Williams added 44 for the sixth wicket to get the hosts back on track. Bishop and Campbell-Bernard then shared a stand of 27, and when Rees was run out Dorset needed just 11 runs from 17 overs with two wickets in hand.
Anya Hughes was caught by Edgecombe off the bowling of Bond at 133 for nine in the 36th over.
Bishop and Robinson brought the scores level but the latter was bowled by Bond off the first ball of the 38th over as a dramatic encounter finished all square, with both sides having to settle for two points.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Ahead of the game, Somerset Pathway Coach & Women and Girls Lead, Kieran Peters said: “After a successful weekend in Cornwall we carry some good momentum into this weekend’s 50-over game against Dorset. It’s our last 50-over game of the season and we want to go there, execute our skills and play a good brand of cricket.
“This year’s competition has been a bit of a mixed bag. I’ve been pleased with how we’ve competed when we’ve been missing some players and also pleased with the performances we put in when we were at full strength. Hopefully, we can finish well at Bournemouth this weekend.
“We will focus on how we want to play our cricket, try to execute our skills as best we can and make sure that we are ready for every ball.”
