VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “This game is all about being as prepared as we can be. Obviously with the change in pre-season planning, we’ve lost some competitive cricket and we know we need to get that match sharpness ahead of the game against Notts. We had a two-day internal game this week which worked really well. The guys’ attitude towards that was excellent but you can’t beat playing against an opposition who are trying to win the game and create that competitive edge. So, over the next three days we’ll try and get a positive result.

“The reality is, with a shortened pre-season from a competitive point of view, we’ve had to put our eggs in one basket. So, the guys involved tomorrow are very much in mind for selection for the first game against Notts. We need to maximise the opportunities for those guys to make sure that their skills are ready. Having said that, it’s never too late. I think we’ve seen it historically. A lot can happen between now and next Friday and the way that everyone has operated through pre-season has been outstanding. Some guys’ skills have advanced significantly, so that’s really exciting, so if things do change between now and Friday, we know that someone will be ready to step up.

“From this point forward it’s about how we go about our business. It’s about ensuring there are no surprises come next Friday. It’s about using this as the last opportunity to make sure that they’re ready to go both physically and mentally against Notts.”
