Over 15,000 people watched pro women’s cricket in Taunton in 2025
2025 was a huge year for the women’s game.
This season heralded the introduction of Tier 1 professional women’s cricket for the first time, and nowhere was this new development embraced more than in Somerset.
Somerset has long played a significant role within the development of the women’s game. Indeed, the Cooper Associates County Ground staged its first women’s match in 1953, with Somerset Women playing their first recorded match three years later in Glastonbury.
More recently, England Women played their first match at the CACG in 1997. It was a fixture that saw a young Charlotte Edwards scored her maiden ODI century.
In 2009, the Cooper Associates County Ground officially became the ECB’s ‘Official Home of Women’s Cricket’ to coincide with the venue hosting all 12 group games in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 competition.
The relationship between Somerset CCC and the women’s game goes from strength to strength every year, and 2025 saw more than 15,000 people attend professional women’s fixtures in Taunton.
Here are some of the highlights from the incredible season:
SOMERSET v LANCASHIRE THUNDER
In excess of 2000 Members and supporters flocked to the Cooper Associates County Ground in June to witness an absolute thriller between Somerset and Lancashire.
It was a nailbiter that went right down to the wire!
In addition to the cricket, a special Women in Sport event was held in the 1875 Club which saw a Q&A session with an expert panel including Somerset and England star, Heather Knight.
To top off the night a outstanding Taylor Swift tribute concert was held on the Somerset Leisure Stage in our fan village.

ENGLAND v WEST INDIES
A bumper crowd was in attendance to witness England claim a comprehensive nine-wicket win courtesy of an unbeaten half century from Nat Sciver-Brunt and three wickets for Sarah Glenn.

VITALITY T20 COUNTY CUP FINALS DAY
The first ever Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup Finals Day was held at the Cooper Associates County Ground in May.
Four teams, three matches, one winner!
Surrey, Bears, The Blaze and Lancashire Lightning did battle at the CACG with the team from Old Trafford coming out on top.

INCREDIBLE SUPPORT
2025 saw SCCC introduce a first-ever stand-alone Somerset Women Membership.
The team received incredible backing with more than 1000 of these Memberships sold.
After reaching the milestone, SCCC Commercial Director, Caroline Herbert said: “It is abundantly clear that there is a demand for professional women’s cricket in the region and we are delighted by the volume of support that the team has received. It’s been fantastic to see the backing that the players have received here at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton Vale Sports Club and Exmouth CC.
“The appetite for participating in and viewing women’s sport is at an all time high and it is a privilege to be one of the organisations at the forefront of this. I would like to take this opportunity thank all of our 1000 Somerset Women Members for their support.”
