Opportunities Available for Aspiring Pathway Coaches

Somerset County Cricket Club is excited to announce the launch of this winter’s South West Coaching Programme (SWCP), a free coach development initiative aimed at enhancing the skills of cricket coaches throughout the South West.

The SWCP has been designed to offer a comprehensive approach to coach development, combining both theoretical knowledge and practical application to ensure participants gain valuable, hands-on experience.

This initiative focuses on providing coaches with the tools and insights needed to effectively develop young cricketers, equipping them with strategies that go beyond traditional coaching methods. By bringing together coaches from across Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, the programme seeks to create a collaborative learning environment that will support the long-term growth of coaching standards in the South West.

Coaches who are passionate about working with young players and who are eager to develop their skills will find the SWCP to be an ideal opportunity to further their professional development while contributing to the future of cricket in the region.

Opportunities for Coaches Beyond the Somerset Pathway

This year, the SWCP is offering a number of spaces to coaches who currently work with young players outside of the Somerset Pathway and would like to be considered for paid coaching roles within Somerset’s Boys and Girls Pathways. By joining the SWCP, successful applicants will not only benefit from the programme’s development sessions, but may also secure a position as a Somerset Pathway Coach.

The programme will feature a series of online workshops and in-person sessions, with detailed content from experienced specialists in areas such as practice design, player development, and performance psychology. The SWCP’s hands-on approach ensures coaches can directly apply their learning in real-world environments, providing tangible benefits to the young cricketers they work with.

Requirements and How to Apply

Coaches looking to apply must hold, as a minimum, an ECB Core Coach/Level 2 qualification or be in the process of working towards it this winter. In addition to meeting the qualification criteria, applicants must have the right to work in the UK and should indicate their availability to attend the programme sessions as well as their general coaching availability throughout the winter.

The application process will require coaches to submit the online form below, including their preferences for working within the Boys Pathway, Girls Pathway, or both. Those who progress to the next stage will be invited to an individual online interview, where they will have the chance to discuss their coaching philosophies and motivations for being involved in the SWCP and Somerset’s Pathway programmes.
