More success for Craig and Sophie at SCCC Awards Dinner
Craig Overton and Sophie Luff added to their successes at this week’s PCA dinner by scooping the majority of awards at Somerset’s end of season celebrations.
The evening was officially opened by Somerset CCC CEO, Jamie Cox.
Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry then looked back on the 2026 season for both our Men’s and Women’s teams.
Presentations were then made to Kian Roberts and Ruby Davis, who will leave the Club this winter.
Special mention was also made of SCCC Finance Manager, Lisa Brown to mark her 25 years with the Club.
The first awards of the evening were the President’s Champagne moments, which were selected by Somerset CCC President Sir Peter Wanless. These went to Chloe Skelton for taking the final wicket in Somerset’s Dramatic win against Yorkshire at Headingley, and to Craig for his match winning performance in the Vitality Blast quarter-final at the same venue.
Maralyn Smith, Managing Director of Somerset Cricket Foundation, then presented the Michael Spiers Community Players of the Year trophies plus £1000 Michael Spiers vouchers to Emma Corney and Fin Hill.
The Tom Pearce Award for Men’s Young Player of the Year went to Josh Thomas and he was presented with the award by Boys Academy Lead Coach, Alex Barrow and Dan Parsons from Coreus.
The Women’s Young Player of the Year award was announced by Somerset Women Batting & Assistant Coach, Kieran Peters and was presented to Niamh Holland by Nathan Johnson from Coreus.
Luke Beattie from Pump Supplies then presented the Men’s Supporters’ Player of the Year award to Craig before Sophie received the Thatchers Women’s Supporters’ Player of the Year award from Mark Eggar of Howards Motor Group.
The award for Men’s White-Ball Player of the Year also went to Craig and was presented by Michael Tierney of Brown & Brown.
The Women’s List A Player of the Year was then presented to Sophie by Andrew Cowlin from Aironix
The Championship Player of the Year trophy was handed to Craig by Mark Southern of WPA Health Insurance, whilst the Women’s T20 Player of the Year was presented to Sophie by Harris Fowler’s Gemma Beattie.
An entertaining and informative Q&A session then took place involving Jason Kerr, Erin Osborne, Craig Overton and Sophie Luff.
Somerset Interim Chair, Richard Brice then announced the winner of the Hollins Award: Recognising Great Partnerships. The winners were Tom Abell and Tom Lammonby for their mammoth stand against Surrey which saw them share 334 for the fourth wicket which was a new Club record. The award was accepted on their behalf by Somerset’s Assistant & Fielding Coach, Paul Tweddle.
The highly sought-after Player of the Season trophies also went to Sophie and Craig.
Sophie was presented with hers by Erin Osborne and Chris Lee from Howards Motor Group. Jason Kerr and Julian Temple from Brown & Brown then made the presentation to Craig.
Richard Brice then officially closed the awards ceremony, and those in attendance made their way to the Long Room to dance the night away courtesy of live music from The Haus Band.
