2024 Club Watch #1

It was Week three of the West of England Premier League and despite rain disruptions, most clubs did manage to play full games across the region. Let’s take a look at how some of Somerset’s First Team, Academy and Women players got on.

Will Smeed asserted his dominance with a stunning 76 off just 57 balls away at Bristol against Bedminster CC. His knock contained five boundaries and seven maximums, and helped Bridgwater CC win the match by 124 runs.

George Thomas was handy at Bath with both bat and ball against Lansdown CC. He made a solid 31 opening the innings for Taunton St. Andrews CC and also picked up a wicket in an economical spell of 4-0-18-1. The Taunton side won the match by 43 runs defending a revised target.

Club legend, Peter Trego had a spell to remember against Bishopston CC as he ran through the top-order picking up three wickets for only thirteen runs after bowling seven overs. His spell made sure Burbage & Easton Royal CC had a strong hold in the game from the first ball, and a thumping nine-wicket win followed.

In the Women’s Premier Division, Karla Rose wrote her name all over the match between Taunton Deane CC and Cheltenham CC, scoring 63 off just 64 balls, and bowling an economical spell of 8-0-26-1, albeit in a losing cause as Cheltenham CC won the match by four wickets.

Tilly Bond and Joleigh Roberts had a decent outing for Bridgwater CC against Dumbleton CC. However, Bond’s spell of 5-0-37-1 and 11 off 12 balls, along with Roberts’ score of 25 off 31 was not enough as Dumbleton CC took the win by 77 runs.
