Matt Drakeley appointed Performance Director

Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Drakeley as Performance Director.

As the Club strengthens the structure behind its future success, Matt will provide strategic leadership across our professional Women’s and Men’s programmes. He will lead performance systems, player progression, recruitment frameworks and the alignment between our professional and pathway programmes, bringing coaching, analysis and sport science & medicine together around the players.

Regarding his new role, Matt said: “It’s a real privilege to take on the role of Performance Director. Over the last few years, a lot of work has gone into how players move from our Pathway into professional cricket, and I’m excited to keep growing that and carry it right through into the First Team environment.

“Leading women’s professional cricket alongside my Director of Talent role this year has been a great opportunity, and one I look forward to continuing. There is so much good work happening across both our professional teams.

“The role brings the Men’s and Women’s programmes, the Pathway, recruitment and our performance support together under one lens, and my job is to build on what is already here and make sure every part of our cricket is working towards the same goal: winning trophies for Somerset with a team built around players who have come through the Somerset, Devon and Cornwall Pathways.”

Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “Matt will play an important role in connecting talent development with elite performance, supporting our ambitions across the Pathway, Men’s and Women’s programmes.

“Matt is held in extremely high regard by his peers and the players who he works with, and he is deserving of this recognition.”
