Many of the Somerset Pathway teams have been in action over the last few days and there were a number of standout performances, including an unbeaten 127 from Thomas Rew, five wickets for four runs from Lola Harris and five for 20 for Oscar Coleman; all at Under 18 level.
Thomas scored his unbeaten century for Under 18 Boys in their match against London Schools Cricket Association Academy who were bowled out for 228 in 47.3 overs, Noah Lewis -Jones claiming four for 38.
When Somerset replied, Rew and Seb Linnet put on 147 for the first wicket before the latter was out for 76 off 65 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. Finn Kelsey then joined Rew and the pair remained together to see the hosts to 229 without further loss in 29 overs. Rew ended unbeaten on 127 which he scored off 85 balls with 19 fours and three sixes, while Kelsey was 21 not out.
Oscar Coleman grabbed his five wicket haul when Somerset Under 18s travelled to play against Gloucestershire at Thornbury in round three of the ECB County Cup. Batting first, Rew (30) and Fin Hill (49) added 66 for the first wicket. Later in the innings Coleman (37) and Lachlan Rice (28) added 63 for the seventh wicket as the visitors were all out for 200 in 38.1 overs.
When the hosts replied, they were bowled out for 141 in 28.5 overs, Coleman taking five for 20 from his 5.5 overs, one of which was a maiden.
Devon chose to to bat in their 50-over match against Somerset Under 18 Boys and scored 235 for eight. In reply, Somerset reached their target in 49 overs for the loss of seven wickets thanks to James Matravers (65), Blasie Baker (29) and an unbeaten 40 from Jago Barclay.
Lola Harris achieved her impressive bowling performance in the semi final of the Girls Under 18 Knock Out match against Kent. She sent down nine overs, seven of which were maidens, and ended up with five wickets for four runs as Kent were all out for 125 in 37.5 overs.
When Somerset replied they were bowled out for 99 in 35.4 overs, Laila Moledina making a patient 21 while Lucy Bird scored 15.
Somerset Girls Under 18s played two T20 matches against Hertfordshire. In match one, Somerset scored 127 for five of which Lilly Hawkins made 37. In reply Hertfordshire reached 118 for seven.
In the second game, Hertfordshire made 117 for seven and Somerset replied with 118 for three in 15.3 overs, Bracken Whittaker top scoring with 29. Harris made 26 and Katie Rowe an unbeaten 25.
Against Wiltshire at King’s Bruton, the Under 18 Girls were asked to bat and were all out for 100 in 34.3 overs. Lucy Hawkins made 30. In reply, the visitors reached 101 for four in 28.1 overs, Connie Osborn taking two for 16.
Somerset Under 16 Boys faced Dorset who chose to bat and were all out for 218 in 42.4 overs, Harvey Richards claiming four for 34. In reply, Somerset were bowled out for 181 in 47 overs. Openers Hanson Martin (58) and Rishabh Shimpi (40) put on 64 for the first wicket. Martin then added 59 with Will House who made 19, after which the rest of the wickets fell cheaply.
The Boys Under 14s chose to bat against Cornwall and posted 237 for seven from their 45 overs. Harvey Coleman (83) and Lewis Townsend (30) added 101 together for the first wicket. Coleman then added 51 for the second wicket with Sam Price (41).
In reply, Cornwall reached 154 for eight, Jamie Baker taking four for six in three overs giving Somerset victory by 83 runs.
The Boys Under 13 Wyverns were in action against Devon who hit 154 for seven off their 40 overs.
The Somerset run chase began poorly and the team slipped to 17 for five before Jayden Cruickshank and Sebastian Gray added 31 for the sixth wicket. Cruickshank then added a further 31 for the seventh wicket with Brandon Travers (8) before he was out for 40. In the end however Somerset were all out for 99 in 29.2 overs.
