There have been some impressive performances in recent matches that have been played by the Somerset Pathway teams.
Somerset Girls Under 18s enjoyed victory over their Cornwall counterparts in the ECB County One Day Cup at Grampound Road CC. Batting first, Somerset posted 303 for four from 50 overs, of which Laila Moledina made 123 from 122 balls with 17 fours whilst Charlotte Webber scored 79 off 131 deliveries, the pair sharing an opening partnership of 232.
In reply, Cornwall were bowled out for 173 in 45.5 overs with Poppy Hawker taking three for 16 off nine overs, two of which were maidens.
The Girls Under 18s also played and won two games against Hampshire at King’s Bruton in Group 2 of the ECB T20 competition. In the opening game Somerset posted 167 for nine, Rose Grant Peterkin top scoring with 28. Isobel Glyn Jones hit 24 and Katie Rowe made 23 before Hampshire were restricted to 99 for six.
In the second game Hampshire won the toss, batted first and posted 154 for three. When Somerset replied they reached 155 for two in 18.5 overs, a total that was built on good scores from Leila Moledina (50 off 53 balls) and Lilly Hawkins (68 not out).
Somerset Boys Under 18s travelled to Totton to play against Hampshire in Round 3 of the ECB County Cup. Batting first, the visitors were all out for 222 in 41.1 overs. A feature of the Somerset innings was 85 by Kian Roberts, who added 41 for the second wicket with Seb Linnitt (37). He then put on 46 with Ben Church for the third and 39 for the fifth with Theo Lamey. He was eventually the sixth wicket to fall with the total on 177. Lower in the order Zach Vukusic made 35.
In reply, the Somerset bowlers reduced Hampshire to 51 for five before a sixth wicket partnership added 105 until it was broken by Jago Barclay, who claimed another in the next over.
James Theedom and Roberts then claimed a wicket each, but the Hampshire last pair held their nerve to reach 223 for nine in 47.2 overs. Roberts ended with four for 36 from his nine overs, one of which was a maiden while Theedom had three for 37 off 7.2 overs with one maiden, and Barclay two for 23 off eight.
The Somerset Under 18 Boys Development team hosted Cornwall in a friendly at Taunton Deane CC. Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for 257 in 46.2 overs, Jamie Ogborne claiming four for 57 off nine overs while Jai Kumar took three for 50 from the same number of overs.
Somerset reached 258 for five in reply off 41.1 overs, to win by five wickets. The home side’s total was given a solid start of 92 by openers Sam Price, who made 59 off 79 balls, and Lachlan Rice who hit 40.
Bertie Michael made 70 his runs coming off 46 balls with 10 fours and two sixes before retiring and , during his innings added 97 with Ben Stoddart who was unbeaten on 26.
