James Schofield to leave Somerset
Somerset County Cricket Club can confirm that James Schofield will leave his position as Women’s Bowling Coach at the end of June.
Having previously worked within the Western Storm programme, James transitioned to Somerset as part of the move to the new Tier 1 women’s structure. Since joining the Club, he has made a valued contribution to the development of players and programmes, bringing energy and a genuine passion for supporting individuals to fulfil their potential.
James said: “I’d like to thank Somerset for the opportunity to be part of such an important period in the development of the women’s game. Having been involved with the bowling group from the Western Storm programme through to Somerset’s new Tier 1 structure, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the growth of both the group and the individuals within it. I’m particularly proud of the progress the bowling group has made over that journey and of the environment we created together, where players were able to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game. Their hard work has come to fruition with the consistent performances all have seen this season.
“Working alongside such a committed group of players, medical staff and S&C staff has been a privilege, and I leave with many positive memories. I’d like to thank all of the players and colleagues I’ve worked with over the years for their support, commitment and willingness to embrace new ideas. I wish the Club every success for the future and look forward to the next chapter in my career.”
Andy Hurry, Director of Cricket said: “Having been part of the journey of Western Storm through to Somerset’s Tier 1 women’s programme, James has worked with many staff and supported a number of players over the years. We would like to thank him for all the contributions he has made during that time. His commitment to player development and the wider programme has been greatly appreciated throughout an important period in the evolution of the women’s game. We wish him every success for the future”.
