SOMERSET SPOOFING CHAMPIONSHIP
On Saturday February 7th, forty-six spoofers participated in the inaugural Somerset Spoofing Championship in the Long Room at the CACG.
The event, which was organised and run by Nick White, President of Chard Cricket Club, raised £1,090 for the Chard CC practice nets refurbishment fund.
Spoof is a game played with 3 coins of equal size or denomination, where participants must ‘calculate’ the total number of coins held in the players’ clenched fist.

YOUNG LIVES Vs CANCER CHARITY BALL
On Saturday February 28th, a special ball was held in the County Room to raise money for charity as Nicola Hockey, one of the event organisers, explains: “My daughter, Ella, and friend Sophie have secured charity places in the London Marathon and they’re raising money for Young Lives Vs Cancer because the charity supported Sophie when they needed them. As part of the fund raising, we wanted to come up with a good way to get a lot of people together to have a good night out whilst at the same time raising money for a really good cause that is close to our hearts. What better way to do that than by putting on a charity ball!
“It went very well and was really well supported. Over 200 people attended and enjoyed some excellent food and a great band. There was a raffle and a silent auction, and overall, we raised over £6000.
“It also gave those present the chance hear about how Young Lives Vs Cancer supported our friends when they had to go through cancer treatment for their child. It was a good way to raise awareness of what a worthy cause it is.
“The County Room was perfect for the event, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.”
JOB FAIRS SOUTH WEST
Somerset Jobs Ltd held another jobs fair at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Friday February 27th.
More than 30 exhibitors were present on the day promoting a varied range of sectors.
The event also provided local residents with the perfect opportunity to meet recruitment teams from across the region.
