King’s College Careers in Sport Morning
King’s College, Taunton returned to the Cooper Associates County Ground for the fourth successive year for their now annual Careers in Sport Morning.
The event, which was held in the 1875 Club, gives students the opportunity to learn about the variety of careers that are available within the sports industry, from coaching and physiotherapy to marketing and sports development.
Those in attendance learned about the entry routes into such careers, the progression opportunities that exist plus the skills and qualities required in the industry.
All learning outcomes help contribute to achieving Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria towards the “Professional Development in Sport” unit as part of the BTEC Sport course at King’s College, Taunton.
Following the event, Brendan Craggs, Teacher of Physical Education at King’s College, Taunton said: “The students had an informative morning, where many questions were answered about differing careers in the sports industry. The event is key in helping to guide all to make educated decisions about their futures as well as contributing towards their studies. We thank all those who presented for their time, enthusiasm and expertise.”
Women in Sport Breakfast
Around 80 people were present at the Women in Sport Breakfast in The Long Room on January 20th.
The annual event brings together leading local business people, influencers and journalists to discuss the rise of women’s sport.
A presentation on the power of women’s sport by SCCC Commercial Director, Caroline Herbert was warmly received before an in-depth Q&A session took place with a panel consisting of Bristol Bears Women’s General Manager Daisie Mayes, Somerset CCC Women’s Head Coach Erin Osborne, Team Bath Netball General Manager Lisa Pagett and Bishop Lydeard AFC Women’s Director of Football Julie Bowker.

2026 SCCC Member Open Day
Around three hundred Somerset Members braved the weather for the annual Somerset CCC Members’ Open Day at the Cooper Associates County Ground in January.
The annual free event gives Members the opportunity to see everything that the Club has to offer and gives those who attend exclusive behind the scenes access.
Those in attendance enjoyed a number of presentations from all departments of the Club before enjoying a number of guided tours.
Attendees were then given the opportunity to take part in interactive training sessions with the Men’s and Women’s teams in the Indoor Centre of Excellence.
This was followed by informative question and answer sessions with Somerset Director of Cricket Andy Hurry, Somerset Men Head Coach Jason Kerr and Somerset Women Head Coach Erin Osborne.
