“It’s a fantastic achievement”: Greg so proud of Second XI

Tuesday was a day to remember for Somerset Cricket Club as the Second XI won the T20 competition for the first time.

After dominating their group by winning seven of the eight games that they were able to play, Somerset then swept aside Glamorgan in the semi final before dispatching Yorkshire in the final.

After a few days to reflect on the success, Somerset Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis is extremely proud of his side.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to get to Finals Day,” he said. “I think one of the most pleasing things is that they certainly weren’t overawed by the occasion, and they carried on playing the brand of cricket that they played all the way through the group stage. It was a great day and the players got their just rewards. The cricket they’ve been playing has been so positive right the way through from the first ball of the campaign to the last ball of the final.

“Every single XI that we’ve fielded this season has performed and it’s been a genuine group effort. From players with First XI experience all the way through to our Academy players, everyone played their part, stood up and contributed to this success. It just goes to show how much strength in depth there is at the Club.

“I’m really proud of all of them. They’ve gelled really well, they’re a good bunch and they get on well. You can see that they’re enjoying it and it’s been a pleasure to watch them this summer.

“The players are the ones who deserve all the credit. They’re the ones who go out on the park and perform every day. Whilst I knew we had a good squad and could certainly compete in the competition; you don’t always get the results that you deserve at the end of it. However, when you look at the way the guys performed throughout the campaign, wining the trophy is the reward that they deserve.”
