“It has been a fantastic summer, and its not over yet” says Jamie Cox

Jamie Cox took over as Chief Executive of Somerset CCC earlier this year, since when he has seen the Club enjoy success in all three of the domestic competitions as well as winning the Second XI T20 Cup.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Metro Bank One Day Cup Final against Glamorgan at Trent Bridge the Chief Executive, who captained Somerset to victory in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy and runners up in the County Championship in 2001, said:

“I’m really excited about Sunday, and probably more so than I was even for the T20 last Saturday. It’s a format of the game that I think I always fancied and I’m really excited for the mainly young blokes who are going out to try and win us a trophy. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the team.

“One of our historical great strengths is to produce our own players and we are very confident that we can continue to do a fantastic job for the national side and keep on producing good young talent.

“We probably need to push a few more up to higher honours but there are a few coming up through that are almost ready to go. If we keep having team success then it will pay dividends as far as having individuals selected to play for England – that’s how the system works.”

Talking about his time back at Somerset Jamie said: “It has been a really delightful summer, full of really nice surprises and it feels like a terrific choice we made to return to Somerset. The people and the Members are as great cricket people as I remember them to be.

“However there is a lot ahead of us. We have got to welcome in the women and make that work which is exciting and we have got to make this place as popular a place to come to as it always has been and really deliver a service that our Members are proud of.

“The challenges won’t stop but it has certainly been a fun summer and I, as much as anybody, just hope there is something to show for it.”

Jamie added: “Regardless I won’t let anyone talk me down from it being a successful season irrespective of where things go from here. It has been a fantastic summer and it’s not over yet!”
