To whet your appetite we’re taking a look back on India’s previous visits to the home of Somerset County Cricket Club.

2012

In 2012 India played five ODIs against England, two of which were staged at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

The first ODI was played at Lord’s and saw the tourists win by five wickets.

The two teams arrived in Taunton for the second and third ODIs with England looking to level the series in the first match at Taunton, but it was India who made it two-nil courtesy of a 14-run victory.

Charlotte Edwards won the toss and elected to field first. It looked like being the right decision as India slipped to 46 for seven in the 22nd over.

Amita Sharma made 42 not out to ensure that India posted any kind of total, but Katherine Sciver-Brunt was in fine form, claiming four for 20 from 10 overs as the tourists were dismissed for 129 from 47.5 overs.

Chasing 130 for victory, England made the worst possible start as Edwards and Sarah Taylor were dismissed inside the first seven overs. When Heather Knight fell for 10 in the 18th over, England were 43 for four.

Tammy Beaumont made 31, whilst Jenny Gunn (20) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (19*) added valuable runs further down the order, but wickets continued to fall and England were dismissed for 115 with 16 balls remaining. Jhulan Goswami was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 17.

England went into the third ODI knowing that they needed a win to stay in the series.

Once again, Edwards won the toss and elected to field.

India lost Punam Raut and Mona Meshram early, and 18 for two soon became 47 for four as the England attack began to dominate. However, Mithali Raj scored a superb 92 not out as India reached 173 for five from their 50 overs.

Edwards fell for seven, but Beaumont (44) and Taylor (34) added 58 for the second wicket to get their side back on track.

Arran Brindle then added an unbeaten 40 as England reached their target to win by three wickets and keep the series alive.

England went on to win the series three-two.

2017

England hosted the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2017 and the Cooper Associates County Ground staged seven fixtures.

The second of these fixtures saw India take on the West Indies.

Mithali Raj won the toss and invited the West Indies to bat first.

Hayley Matthews top scored with 43 but at 91 for six in the 35th over her side were struggling. Shanel Daley (33) and Afy Fletcher (36*) ensured that the West Indies finished on 183 for eight.

India made light work of the run chase as a sensational innings from Smriti Mandhana saw them take the win by seven wickets. The India opener smashed an unbeaten 106 from 108 balls as India reached their target with 45 balls to spare.

2021

The second ODI of England’s 2021 series with India was held at Taunton.

England had won the series opener at Bristol and made it two-nil thanks to a five-wicket victory at the CACG.

Heather Knight won the toss and elected to field.

Player of the match Kate Cross took five for 34 as England restricted the tourists to 221 from their 50 overs. Mithali Raj top scored for India with 59.

Lauren Winfield-Hill made 42 at the top of the order and Sophia Dunkley made 73 not out as England reached their target with 15 balls to spare.
