Family Day 2024: “Junior Takeover”

As part of our annual Family Fun Day, we gave local children the chance to take over the Cooper Associates County Ground during our Metro Bank One Day Cup clash with Derbyshire.

Somerset CCC, in collaboration with Somerset Cricket Foundation, invited a number of Junior Members and local young players to the match and let them take over a number of matchday roles.

The children involved had the opportunity to fulfil the following jobs:

  • Commentator
  • Live match blogger
  • Journalist
  • DJ
  • Live stream camera operator
  • Live stream director
  • Reporter
  • Scorer
  • Photographer
  • Big screen/scoreboard operator

The day itself was a great success, with lots of children getting the opportunity to experience what life is like on a busy matchday.

SCCC Head of Digital, Ben Warren, who was one of the driving forces behind the event said: “Working alongside Somerset Cricket Foundation, we wanted to build on the success of our annual Family Day by allowing some of our young Members and supporters to get a hands-on experience of what it’s like behind the scenes on a busy matchday.

“We are always looking at ways in which we can create added value for our fans and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to enable us to do just that.

“We pride ourselves on being a welcoming Club, and family is very much at the heart of everything that we are trying to achieve. All the children involved did a fantastic job and it was great to see them having such a good time. It was lovely to see Bodhi joining Harry Everett on commentary, and all of them helped us to deliver a brilliant matchday experience.”
