Cricket Discipline Panel Decision: Club Statement

It has today been announced that Somerset CCC has been deducted points in the Rothesay County Championship.

Following a hearing on September 11th, the independent Cricket Discipline Panel (‘CDP’) confirmed that the Club have been deducted four points with a further four-point deduction being suspended until the end of the 2027 County Championship season.

The sanction has been imposed for what has been deemed as a breach of the ECB Pitch Regulations following an investigation by the Cricket Regulator after the Match Officials for the Somerset v Durham Rothesay County Championship match in July rated the pitch as “Below Average”.

Regarding this announcement, Somerset CEO, Jamie Cox said: “Whilst we are disappointed by the outcome, we are pleased that the tribunal rejected any suggestion that the Club deliberately sought to produce a Substandard wicket. We would also like to thank the CDP for their clarity and transparency throughout the hearing process.

“Somerset County Cricket Club will always aspire to produce the best possible pitches which will ensure an enthralling contest between bat and ball.”
