Club Watch #2
The club cricket season is well and truly underway and with the weather improving there has been plenty of action over the last couple of weeks.
Let’s take a look at how some of Somerset’s First Team and Academy players got on.
Sean Dickson performed well on his debut for Clevedon CC on Saturday May 13th. The Somerset opener made 65 from 67 balls with eleven fours as Clevedon went on to beat Bridgwater by 27 runs. The South African followed that up last weekend with another half century, knocking 54 from 58 balls that included five boundaries and one maximum. Dickson’s innings helped steer Clevedon to a conclusive 114 run victory over Ilminster CC.
Roelof van der Merwe geared up for the Vitality Blast with a trademark bowling performance for Callington CC over the weekend. The Dutch International finished with figures of four for 25 off his 9.4 overs, contributing heavily in Callington’s 46 run victory over Hayle CC.
Ben Green was involved in a low scoring thriller against Bristol CC on Saturday the 13th. The all-rounder let his bowling do the talking as shown with his figures of three for eight off 6.5 overs. Unfortunately this wasn’t quite enough for Taunton Deane as they fell 10 runs short in pursuit of Bristol’s score of 79.
George Thomas also impressed over the weekend with brilliant ball striking. He hit ten boundaries, nine along the deck and one over the rope. The 19-year-old made 45 in Taunton St Andrews heavy defeat to Chippenham CC.
