CACG hosts first ever South West Super 1s Festival
Monday saw the inaugural South West Super 1s Festival hosted at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
The event, which was coordinated and run by Somerset Cricket Foundation, was designed to bring together players from projects across the South West and was attended by cricketers from Gloucestershire, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
In total, more than 40 young people got the chance to try a variety of cricket activities as well as taking part in a journalism workshop with SCCC Media Manager, Spencer Bishop and Head of Digital Content and Videography, Will Martin..
The cricket activities were run on the pitch by Somerset Cricket Foundation and they were supported by Somerset CCC stars Will Smeed, Andy Umeed and Ned Leonard.
Several of the participants then utilised the skills that they had learned in the workshop by interviewing Somerset and England spinner, Jack Leach.
Following the event, Steve Gass, Community Manager for the Foundation said: “It was an amazing day. To see so many smiles and to hear so much chatter and laughter, I knew everyone was having a great time!”
One of the Super 1s players said: “I liked the session on interviewing people and learning about the range of jobs at the Cooper Associates County Ground.”
Another player said: “It was great to interview Jack Leach. He’s my favourite player and I can’t believe I got to speak to him today!”
Super 1s is a Lords Taverners programme that supports young people aged 12-25 with a disability to access free weekly cricket.
