Academy Update: Verity Claims 7 for 28
Somerset Academy bowler, Verity Clarke claimed seven wickets playing against Wiltshire at Burbage in the ECB Girls Under 18 County One Day Cup.
After the hosts won the toss and chose to bat, Verity opened the bowling and took a wicket in her first over before claiming three of the top four batters as Wiltshire were reduced to 40 for four.
Verity, who is pictured receiving the Harry Burden Bursary for 2025 from Jack Leach, then returned later in the innings to help dismiss Wiltshire for 179 in 30.1 overs.
She finished with seven for 28 from 8.1 overs, one of which was a maiden.
The Somerset reply began positively with Katie Rowe (38) and Charlotte Webber sharing an opening stand of 69.
Webber and Leila Moledina then put on 70 for the second before the latter was out for 31. Webber fell for 58 from 68 balls including 10 fours.
However, from 146 for three the visitors were bowled out for 169 in 28.4 overs, 11 runs short of their target.
Verityâs bowling figures are one of the best ever achieved for the Somerset Girls Under 18s.
In the same competition against Cornwall at Grampound Road, Somerset amassed 349 for nine from their 50 overs, a total that was built around an opening partnership of 155 between Webber and Lilly Blackwell (80 from 69), after which Mila Brooke made an unbeaten 48.
When Cornwall responded they were bowled out for 190 in 37.3 overs, Brooke claiming five for 37 from 9.3 overs.
There were two centurions for Somerset in their ECB Girls Under 14 One Day Cup game against Devon at Taunton School.
Batting first, Somerset posted 351 for seven from their 40 overs. Florie Weare made 101 off 69 balls and Imogen Dunne scored 103 from 73 before they both retired not out, the pair adding 168 for the second wicket.
Later in the order Jessica Forbes made an unbeaten 24.
When the visitors replied, they were bowled out for 201 in 37.3 overs. Amy Court, Mattie Hodgin and Beatrice Howe claimed two wickets each.
