MATCH CENTRE

Warwickshire claimed a five-wicket victory over Somerset in the Second XI T20 competition at Taunton Vale Sports Club today (Monday May 22nd).

Warwickshire won the toss and elected to field, and Somerset slipped to 34 for three in the sixth over as Tom Banton, James Rew and Will Smeed all fell early. However, a 69-run partnership between Lewis Goldsworthy and Sean Dickson got the hosts back on track.

Goldsworthy was eventually dismissed for 46 from 38 balls, with Dickson going on to make an excellent 72 not out from just 42 deliveries as Somerset posted a total of 165 for six from their 20 overs.

Ned Leonard made an early breakthrough for Somerset when Jacob Bethell was caught by Kasey Aldridge for one with just eight on the board for the visitors.

Michael Burgess (38) and Will Rhodes (77 not out from 48 balls) then added 67 for the second wicket. The visitors brought up three figures in the 11th over, and although Somerset claimed three further wickets, the visitors reached their target with six balls to spare.
