The Somerset cricketing community is mourning the sad loss of John Gardner, one of the driving forces behind the Weston-super-Mare Cricket Festival ,who passed away recently.

John was a solicitor and lived in Cheddar with his wife Pat, with whom he had three  daughters.

John initially joined the Weston-super-Mare Area Committee of Somerset CCC before being elected to the General Committee in 1976. He then served on several sub committees before becoming Vice Chairman in 1983, a role he continued to fulfill before taking over as Chairman of the Club for one year in 1988 before leaving the Committee in 1990.

For many years, John Gardner helped to organise and run the Weston-super-Mare Cricket Festival and helped with the Area fund raising activities.

The funeral service for John will take place at St Andrews Church Cheddar on Friday May 19th, commencing at 11.00am.
