Second XI T20: Somerset v Glamorgan

Glamorgan beat Somerset by two runs in this Second XI T20 Competition fixture at Wells Cathedral School.

Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The home side made an early breakthrough when Zain ul Hassan was caught by Seb Linnett off the bowling of Alfie Ogborne for two in the third over.

Glamorgan had moved to 52 in the eighth over when Tom Bevan (12) was caught behind off Kian Roberts.

Callum Nicholls was run out by Migael Pretorius for 36 at 64 for three but Billy Root and Eddie Byrom added 66 for the fourth wicket from 39 balls.

Byrom (28) fell to James Theedom before Henry Hurle was trapped lbw by Tom Lammonby.

Root (52 from 39) was the last batter out as the visitors finished on 165 for six.

Seb Linnitt fell early but Lammonby and James Rew took their side past the 50 mark before the Somerset ‘keeper was run out for 23 at 54 for two in the seventh over.

Lammonby (37)  and Andy Umeed shared a stand of 54 before the Scotland international reached his 50 from 28 balls. Umeed was bowled by Romano Franco for the addition of just one further run to his total in the 16th over at 131 for four.

Wickets continued to fall and the hosts were unable to keep up with the require run rate.

Despite 14 runs coming from the final over, Somerset finished on 163 for seven, agonisingly short of the required total.
