Another busy winter for TKC

Once again, it’s set to be a busy winter for Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

The 30-year-old is one of the most sought-after white-ball players in the world, and as he explained when we caught up with him recently, it’s going to be a cricket-filled few months.

“I’m heading off to Abu Dhabi for the T10 tournament and then there’s a T10 competition in Sri Lanka,” he said. “I’ll be heading home for Christmas and then I’m off to Dubai for the ILT20.”

Does he feel that winter white-ball cricket benefits his all-round game?

“Absolutely. I feel like it keeps me in a good rhythm. One of the big things about it is that you’re constantly learning from everyone and challenging yourself against the best players in the world.

“It’s fascinating to see how different people go about things in training and in game situations. You’re constantly drawing from other people’s experiences, so it’s a great opportunity to keep learning. I feel like it helps me to evolve as a player and in turn I can help pass that knowledge on to people when I get back.

“It’s not just about on the field performances. It’s about being able to have conversations which can benefit me and my teammates in the future. I want to learn and then be able to pass that knowledge on.”

How would Tom sum up Somerset’s 2024 campaign?

“I felt that we had a great season,” he said. “Obviously, it was frustrating to lose three games in a week at the end, but to be in both finals and also challenging for the Championship title is of massive credit to the lads. You can’t take away how good some of the performances were.

“Personally, I was pretty happy with my Vitality Blast campaign. I like to make contributions that help win matches, and I did that during the tournament. I would have liked some bigger scores and to have made some more contributions, but I was quite pleased with how the T20s went. I was disappointed not to have got any really big scores in four-day cricket, but I think it was a positive season for the Club.”

What does 2025 have in store?

“Hopefully a lot of trophies and a lot of wins! I want to win games of cricket for Somerset and help the Club win all three competitions, whether that’s scoring runs in the Blast and the Championship or helping to pass on knowledge to some of the young players who will be playing in the 50-over competition.

“Everyone knows how much we want to win the County Championship. We’ve come so close to it in the past and hopefully 2025 is the year that will see us finally get over the line.”
